Presentation Guidelines

Guidelines for Oral Presentation

  • Oral presentations are given a 15 minutes slot, with approximately 12 minutes for the presentation followed by 3 minutes for questions and answers.
  • Presentations can be in PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format
  • Presentations must be prepared and delivered in English.
  • Authors responsible for oral presentation are requested to deliver their file at the registration desk before the session start from 8:00 – 10:00 am.

Guidelines for Poster Presentation

  • Poster presentation in this conference is an Electronic Poster (E-Poster). These posters therefore do not require printing.
  • E-Poster will be displayed on a large LCD monitor in the Landscape position.
  • E-Poster must be prepared in English and can be prepared in PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.
  • E-poster is advisable to consist of multiple slides. Please see the formatting tips below.
  • Authors will be given a 15 minutes slot to be at their E-Poster and/or to present their work and answer questions.
  • E-Poster must be delivered at the registration desk on 29 November 2012 from 8:00 – 10:00 am.
  • E-Posters are to be displayed on 30 November 2012 from 10:00 to 17:30; unmanned from 10:00 – 16:00, and must be manned from 16:00 – 17:30.
  • Do not intend it as an oral presentation: The intention of an E-Poster does not include attracting visitors to stay for a long oral, video, or slideshow presentation. Display elements can either loop for a minute or less, or be activated and controlled by the poster presenter on command. Remember, you are to interact with those who are interested in your E-Poster, not give a presentation to an audience.
   Multiple- slide E-Poster Formatting Tips:
  • Set the page setup or slide size to "On-screen show (16:9)".
  • E-Poster should be concise with design and content. Overcrowding a poster makes it difficult to read.
  • Use bullet points.
  • Use fonts that are large enough to read at a distance. Use a minimum font size of 14 points.
  • Include the title and name(s) of the presenter(s) in larger, bolder font than the rest of the poster.
  • It is advisable to organize your poster presentation in sections: Goals, Introduction, Methods, Results and Conclusions.
  • Avoid using too many slides. Recommended number of slides is 8 – 10 slides.
  • Provide clear labels or headings for each section of your presentation.
  • Put a footer on each slide such as "Slide 1 of 6" to let the viewer who walks by mid-cycle of your slideshow know where they are in the presentation and how long they'll wait until it begins again.
  • Remember contrast. Put light-colored fonts on dark backgrounds and dark fonts on light-colored backgrounds so that your viewer can see your text clearly.
  • Imbed high-quality graphics.
  • Avoid hyperlinks. Internet access will not be available during your presentation.
  • Sound is not permitted due to the open area in which posters will be presented.
